Course Objectives 

Android Mobile Application Workshop:

• Understand Android architecture and app components.
• Set up and use Android Studio for development and testing.
• Design interactive user interfaces using XML layouts.
• Implement logic and handle user interactions in Java.
• Store and manage data within apps.
• Test, debug, and package a working Android app prototype.

Outline:

Android Mobile Application Workshop:

Day 1: Introduction to Android App Development

• Understand what Android is and its evolution.
• Explore types of mobile apps (native, hybrid, web).
• Learn about Android architecture (Activities, Intents, UI, Manifest).
• Install and set up Android Studio.
• Overview of Java basics used in Android development.

Day 2: Creating Your First Android App

• Create and run your first “Hello World” app.
• Understand the structure of an Android project (manifest, res, src folders).
• Learn about Activities and Layouts.
• Test the app on an emulator or real device.

Day 3: Designing User Interfaces with XML

• Learn XML layout basics.
• Work with TextView, Button, EditText, ImageView, and LinearLayout.
• Apply styling and positioning (gravity, padding, margins).
• Build a simple login or registration screen.

Day 4: Handling User Interaction and Logic in Java

• Connect UI elements to Java code using findViewById().
• Handle button clicks and text input events.
• Implement Toast messages and simple validations.
• Navigate between screens using Intents.

Day 5: Data Storage and SharedPreferences

• Understand local data storage options.
• Use SharedPreferences to save and retrieve simple data (e.g., username, settings).
• Create an app that stores user input and displays it after reopening.

Day 6: ListView and RecyclerView Basics

• Display multiple data items using ListView or RecyclerView.
• Create custom adapters to show data dynamically.
• Example: A simple task list or notes viewer.

Day 7: Testing, Debugging, and App Optimization

• Use Logcat and breakpoints for debugging.
• Identify and fix runtime errors.
• Optimize layouts for performance.
• Prepare icons, app name, and theme for publishing.

Day 8: Final Project: Building and Presenting Your App

• Combine all learned topics to create a functional app (e.g., To-Do List, Notes App, or Simple Calculator).
• Test, debug, and finalize the project.
• Export APK and share it with the instructor.
• Present your app to the group.

This course is designed for university and higher education students who are eager to learn how to design and develop Android mobile applications. It is particularly suitable for:   

• Engineering Students: especially those in Computer, Software, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering who want to integrate mobile solutions into their projects.
• Computer Science and IT Students: who want to enhance their programming and app development skills.

Prerequisites:

• Basic knowledge of computer operations and file management.
• Familiarity with at least one programming language (Java, C++, or Python) is helpful but not mandatory.
• Access to a Windows or macOS laptop/PC capable of running Android Studio.
